Application Registration for Dummies *
How to register an application in four simple steps

*Dummies really is meant benign - you better should not see me trying to dance waltz or never let me repair my Vespa on my own :-)
Even when you are new to a Mac (or a computer in general) - you will need to know how to register an application you've purchased.
The registration process for almost any shareware on the market is the same.
Of course the windows may look different and some menu items or buttons use different words and descriptions - but the steps you have to do are more or less the same.
I only know two kinds of registration processes used by developers today:
1. Textual Registration Information - means you receive a mail with your serial number you have to type in
2. License Files - means you receive a file containing your registration information you have to open or drag onto a marked view within the application
After your purchase you receive an email from the developer with your registration information.
Those information includes a serial number or a serial license file and often a name or email address you also need for the registration process.
PLEASE READ THOSE MAILS!!!
Most developer tell you how to register their applications and in almost any case developers do not send wrong codes!!!!
Do not type them by hand - just copy and paste them and avoid to paste them twice or to paste white space at the beginning or end…
In case the developer works with license files - download and place them on your desktop and backup them for later use…
Select the application you want to register in Finder and open it (with double-click).
Often demo version of applications show a demo-window at startup, telling you that you are working with a demo and how to purchase them and often there you will also find a button to the registration dialog…
In case there is no such demo-window - you will find the registration window (dialog) by searching the menu and sometimes you can register the application by opening the Preferences (described in the next step)
In case the application does not offer a demo-window with a button to open the registration window (dialog) - just search the menu for an item called 'Registration' or 'Register' or 'Activate' etc.
In case you really can't find such a menu item - chances are that you can register the application in the Preferences (window).

If you've received a license file from the developer - please jump to the next chapter…
If you've received a mail from containing a license number (and maybe a name or email you also need to register) please copy them and paste them into the suiting field in the registration window (dialog)If possible do not type them by hand and avoid pasting them twice or with white space. We developer do not send wrong codes only to peeve you - in most cases it is a simple typo or white space.DO NOT IMMEDIATELY WRITE AN ANGRY MAIL STATING THAT THE DEVELOPER AND THE APPLICATIONS SUCKS!Just try it again - will be much faster than waiting for the answer mail from the pissed developer telling you that the code is valid :-))In case the stupid application really don't want to accept the code - please fetch the next child in your household and let him or her try it. If this does not help at all - go ahead and write a mail to the developer and tell him, that the application sucks :-)Hint: Please use an application like myApps for storing your registration information for later use or in case your hard-disk crashes. Or just use a simple text file and print it out…
In case you've received a license file from the developer, download it and place it on the desktop.
From there please drag-and-drop it onto the 'marked' view in the registration window (dialog). Sometimes you need to open the license file with a button called 'Choose' or 'Select…'HINT: Drag-and-drop is one of the best features your Mac offers. Means you don't have to always use the menu, navigate thru Finder windows to select a file to open it. Instead just select it in Finder, keep the mouse button pressed and drag it to the desired view (or application icon or folder or whatever…)We developer do not send wrong codes and license files only to peeve you. So if you don't succeed with the first try:DO NOT IMMEDIATELY WRITE AN ANGRY MAIL STATING THAT THE DEVELOPER AND THE APPLICATIONS SUCKS!Just try it again - will be much faster than waiting for the answer mail from the pissed developer telling you that the code is valid :-))In case the stupid application really don't want to accept the code - please fetch the next child in your household and let him or her try it. If this does not help at all - go ahead and write a mail to the developer and tell him, that the application sucks :-)Hint: Please use an application like myApps for storing your license file for later use or in case your hard-disk crashes…Often you need an active internet connection to register (activate) the application - otherwise the registration process can't be finished.
So in case of trouble, please ensure that the application is allowed to access the internet.
Congratulations!
You've successfully registered your new application.
Go ahead and enjoy it!
